JW Labs JW Labs LLC · a software studio· Company

The company

JW Labs LLC is a California limited liability company. It builds software, it owns and operates this domain, and "JW Labs" is the short form of its name. There is one company on this page and it is the same one in every sentence.

What it does

JW Labs builds software that takes a large, messy body of real source material and makes it navigable — while keeping every claim attached to the thing it came from. And it takes on engineering and app development work for other people, where the problem is that shape.

That is not a slogan looking for a product. It is the description that fell out of building two of them.

4a is a daily podcast picker. Four topic queues a day rather than one endless feed, one of them deliberately outside your usual subjects, drawn from a library of hundreds of curated shows and tens of thousands more at breadth. It is also building towards something harder: a foray, a named sequence assembled from stretches of several episodes and played as one run. Three real ones are published here in full — the clearest way to see what the product is for.

longlive is a scrubbable timeline of Taylor Swift's career across twelve eras, filterable down to music, tour, fashion or lore. Every moment is sourced and dated, and where a narrative is a widely-held fan interpretation rather than a confirmed fact, the site marks it on the moment itself rather than in a disclaimer nobody reads.

Same shape, different subject. Both are about provenance under load: a lot of source material, a reader who wants a path through it, and a hard rule that nothing gets asserted more confidently than its source supports.

How it works

JW Labs LLC builds with a short path from decision to shipped code, and invests heavily in the tooling and automation that keeps it short.

Whoever decides what to build is whoever writes it. A change of direction costs a conversation rather than a planning cycle, a question about the software is answered by whoever wrote that part of it, and work that is worth doing starts the same week it is decided.

That is what the company organises itself around: reading a problem all the way to the bottom, moving on it quickly, and refusing to ship the version that only looks finished.

What we will not do

These are product principles, not aspirations. Several of them are the reason other things are harder, and several are enforced by tests that fail the build.

Legally boring. 4a never rehosts, proxies, transforms or modifies podcast audio. Playback is a seek and a stop against the publisher's own file, served from the publisher's own host, and there is no derived audio artefact at any point. We also do not detect, skip or strip advertising — not as a courtesy, but as a commitment that shapes the entire design. The page for podcasters is the full statement, including how to have a show removed.

No engagement dark patterns. No streaks, no infinite scroll, no autoplay chains, no notification bait. Discovery keeps a hard exploration floor, which is the opposite of what an engagement metric would ask for — and the exploratory queue deliberately ignores your skip rate, because a slot that backs off when ignored is a slower route to the same three shows.

State observed, never declared. If the software can watch something, it does not ask. There is no settings screen where a listener has to describe themselves before the product works.

No third-party SDKs. 4a contains no advertising code, no ad identifier, no analytics library and no crash reporter. None, rather than few. Most of what it knows never leaves the device, and the account it does keep holds no name, email or phone number.

Say less than is true, never more. Nothing on this website describes an unbuilt feature in the present tense, and one page lists what is built, what is designed and not built, and what has not been verified. Where a decision has not been made — a data-retention period, a compliance position — the documents record the silence rather than filling it in, because silence with a reason is an omission and a sentence we cannot support is a false statement.

Where things stand

4a's web app is deployed and works, at jw-incorporated.github.io/foray/, with no signup and no password. Native iOS and Android shells are built from the same code; the iOS build has been launched on the simulator, the Android build has been compiled but never run, and neither is in a store. Nothing JW Labs LLC makes is currently distributed through the App Store or Google Play. longlive is live on its own domain.

What is built and what is not is the full inventory, including the things that are designed and not built and the one thing that is written and not yet verified.

Working with us

JW Labs LLC takes on outside engineering work: apps people use on a phone, products with a lot of real data underneath them, software that has to be careful with people's data, and front ends built to still work in five years.

What we build describes each of those properly, including where the honest edge of the capability is. How working with us goes covers the rest, including what we will not quote for.
